You will see claims that it helps you fall asleep faster, increases deep sleep, relaxes muscles, reduces stress, and fixes nighttime waking. Some of those ideas are biologically plausible, but the scientific evidence is not as simple as the advertising.

It is especially important to get professional advice if you have kidney disease, heart rhythm problems, significant gastrointestinal disease, are pregnant or breastfeeding, take prescription medicines, or are considering high doses. Children should not be given sleep supplements without appropriate medical guidance.

If insomnia persists for months or interferes with daytime functioning, ask about evidence-based treatment rather than simply adding more supplements. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia can be highly effective for chronic insomnia.
