You do not need a complicated pre-massage routine. The best preparation is to arrive comfortable, on time and ready to communicate clearly about pressure, sensitive areas and any relevant health issues.
Avoid arriving extremely full
A very heavy meal immediately before lying face down may feel uncomfortable. If you are hungry, a normal light meal or snack is fine.
Hydrate normally
Drink as you normally would. There is no evidence-based need to flood your body with water before massage.
Shower if it helps you feel comfortable
A regular shower is enough. Avoid harsh scrubbing or new skin products immediately before the session if your skin is sensitive.
Share relevant health information
Tell the therapist about recent surgery, injuries, pregnancy, blood-thinning medication, fever, skin infection or unexplained swelling. Massage is not a substitute for medical evaluation.
Decide what you want from the session
Relaxation, general muscle comfort and focused work are different goals. Clear communication helps the therapist tailor the session.
